“Overall I’d rate the BS850 as an amazing bit of kit”
DMR-BS850, Home Cinema Choice , 5 out of 5, May 2009
Coming with a massive 500GB hard drive (over 3 times the size of Sky+HD) the Panasonic DMR-BS850 is the perfect solution for those of us dissastisfied with Sky and looking for a HD alternative that also allows us to record content in its original high-definition glory.

Of course, the main talking point of the BS850 has been the price! Coming in at just under a grand many have doubted if the DMR-BS850 is worth it, but the reviews from the leading AV magazines have put paid to any doubts.
What you get hear is a top of the range dual Freesat HD PVR (normally £300) and Blu-Ray recorder (usually around £650) in one convenient box. It will be a long while before other manufacturers can compete with Panasonic at this price point so the DMR-BS850 looks set to rule the roost of AV cabinets around the world for the forseeable future.
The DMR-BS850 also comes with ACVHD support, allowing you to insert pictures and videos straight from your camera / camcorder directly into the SD card slot.
